Castle in the Sky: After the Wars
Malorn trees are the most obvious indigenous life form of Enkei. In form, they are similar to beech trees, though they grow with only a single trunk. Their bark is silver, and in the fall, their leaves will turn either silvery or golden, in contrast with their flowers.
The flower of the Malorn tree is large, often reaching the size of an adult human’s head. They begin to glow shortly after budding with either golden or silver radiance; always the same color for a specific tree throughout its life cycle. At the end of harvest season, the flowers detach themselves from the tree and float away into the sky. This event is known as the Fire-Flowering, and is often marked with a festival.
Towns which do not have at least one Malorn tree are considered unlucky to live in.
The Golden Malorn is considered sacred to and blessed by the Goddess of the Sun, Serenrae, while the Silver Malorn is considered sacred to and blessed by the Goddess of the Moon, Desrae.
